Nature

The National Health & Spa resort of Strelcha is situated in the southern skirts of Sashtinska Sredna Gora mountain (the middle part) in a picturesque hollow of the Luda Yana river at an altitude of 475m. This is a settlement with ancient history. Proof of that are the remains of fortresses and roads as well as the discovered necropolises and mounds, among which the unique ‘Zhaba Mogila’ /Frog Mound/ stands out.

Strelcha is situated 41 km away from Pazardzhik, 60km away from Plovdiv, 14km away from Panagyurishte, 24km away from Koprivshtitsa and 100km away from Sofia. There is a railway station on the Plovdiv – Panagyurishte line.

The town of Stelcha falls into the transitional-continnetal climatic zone with a certain Mediterranean influence. There are hardly any fogs here and the area boasts the greatest number of sunny days in a year. The climate is suitable for conducting all-year-round spa and climatic health treatment.

Historical sites

Among the reclining hills and ancient trees on the skirts of Sashtinska Sredna Gora mountain, on the territory of Strelcha municipality, there are preserved unique natural sites and archeological monuments. They not only present an attraction for the modern tourist, but are also a reminder of the people, who used to live in these lands and the historical ages, that have left a mark on Strelcha and its area.

Strelcha Rocky Formations

The huge granite colossi and pinnacles with wonderful castle and tower-like shapes can be seen to the north and north east of the town. The picturesque rocks are scattered in groups in seven areas – Grekinski Gyol, Goranitsa, Garvanov kamak, Turchanov kamak, Arabushka polyana, Kiselitsata, Gabrovitsa. The Strelcha Rocky Formations are placed under the protection of the Law for protection of nature.

Thracian occult compex – Heroon ‘Zhaba Mogila’

Zhaba Mogila dates back to the 5th century BC – the time when the Thracian tribe of the besses ruled the lands around Strelcha. The complex consists of two facilities – tomb-mausoleum and temple-sanctuary. The tomb has two chambers and in it there were discovered a chariot, three horse skeletons with ammunition and nine pottery dishes placed upside-down. North-west of the tomb is the sanctuary. It has three chambers in the shape of ‘L’ with a total area of 25 sq. m.

Medieval fortress 'Strelcha Kale’

The fortress is situated 2,5 km away from the town on the right bank of Strelchanska Luda Yana river in the Galata area. It was built in the 9th century and functioned until the 14th century. Its impressive 8-metre defense walls are preserved until today. It can be reached by a pleasant walk for 40 minutes.
Strelcha interest its visitors with several houses in authentic architectural style from the Bulgarian Revival period, with the remains of a roman settlement in the area and the remains of dozens of Thracian sanctuaries, ancient roads and bridges, scattered around the area.

Historical museum – Strelcha

In the town centre there is a museum complex with restored old houses, in which the different museum collections are exhibited:
• The Chorbadzhi Nesho Grozdev house – a large two-floor house with living area of 82,5 sq. m. There are three collections in it: ‘Archeology’, ‘Bulgarian lands 15th – 19th c.’ and ‘Arts’.
• Nedelevata house – with a spacious exhibition hall, in which various events are held, as well as temporary exhibitions organized by the museum.
• Thracian tomb – Starosel

The town of Strelcha is situated in a mountainous region. It lies in Sashtinska Sredna Gora mountain. The near-by towns are: town of Panagyurishte (14km to the west) and town of Koprivshtitsa (25km to the north). Strelcha is situated 41 km away from the county centre of Pazardhik, 60km away from Plovdiv and 100km away from the capital city of Sofia.
