Mineral waters

The mineral water has been used for more than 2000 years and is the only Bulgarian mineral water in the World Top 20. It is used for hydro-treatment – internal (through drinking) and external (pools, different types of baths, underwater massage).
Total water mineralization is 0.241 g/l. It is characterized as hypothermal, with low mineralization, hydro-carbonate-sulphate sodium content, without sanitary-chemical and microbiological signs of pollution. The content of examined micro-elements and levels of radiological indicators are within normal range for mineral waters. The water has a stable physic-chemical composition and properties and corresponds to the requirements of Bulgarian State Standard 14947 – 80 (natural, mineral, drinking waters), Regulation #14 for resort resources, resort areas and resorts (State Gazette, Issue 79 from year 1987, amended with Issue 18/1992, amended and appended with Issue 12/1995) and Regulation #6 for bottling of natural mineral waters, for bottling as table water of natural and carbonate mineral water for production of soft drinks.
The remedial and prophylactic properties of the mineral water are defined by the complex action of its remedial factors - present chemical components and specific active substances (hydrocarbonate and sulphate ions and metasilicic acid), as well as its hypotonicity.
The natural mineral water from Varshetz mineral springs can be used for the following purposes:
1.For drinking spa treatment and spa prophylaxis.
2.For table purposes in the form of natural mineral water from water source or bottled, including carbonated.

Nature

Varshetz (altitude of 400 m) is located in a picturesque valley with 120 thousand decares of beech and oak woods alongside the river Botunya. Above are the woody slopes of the Balkan mountain (Todorini Kuli peak, 1785 m high) and the majestic mountain ridge of Koznitza. The amazing century-old boulevard with plain trees is part of the beautiful tree park, situated on an area of 800 decares (second largest in Bulgaria) with pine wood trees and decorative plants. Climate is moderate-continental with sub-mountainous influence.

Historical sites

In the municipal area there are the town museum and the Art Gallery, the Roman steps, the Old (year 1910) and New (year 1930) Spa baths, the Klissoura monastery (12th century – fourth largest monastery in Bulgaria), picturesque areas and ancient fortresses.
In the region there are famous museums and monasteries, natural phenomena: the ‘Ledenika’ and ‘Magurata’ caves, the ‘Vratsata’ mountain pass and the Rocks of Belogradchik.

Free time

- Trips are organized with the resort’s own minibuses to near and far natural sites, cultural-historical and religious monuments, as well as the Ledenika and Magourata caves, the rock formations Rocks of Belogradchik and Vratsata, Baba Vida fortress, Cherepishki monastery, Sedemte Prestola monastery.
In the municipality area is located the fourth largest monastery in Bulgaria – Klissoura monastery, dating back to the 13th century.
- Walking tours are organized to popular areas in the region (Vodopada /Waterfall/, Byalata voda, Zeleni del and Ivanchova polyana).
- Bikes are available for cycling tours and in wintertime the ski track at Kom peak can be used for skiing.

Transport

Varshetz is the largest and most famous spa and health resort in North Bulgaria. It is situated 90 km away from Sofia (through Petrochan mountain pass) and 130 km away from Sofia (via Hemus highway). There are road connections with Vratsa, which is 33 km away, Montana – 33km away, Lakatnik – 27 km away and Berkovitza – 17km away.
